A Flexible UC Solution: Switchvox Exceeds Expectations for a Public Health Organization with Expanding Facilities and Services

Summit County Public Health (SCPH) serves more than 540,000 residents and, after consolidating with the City of Akron and Barberton health departments, grew from about 130 to 265 employees across eleven locations. That rapid expansion exposed serious telecom problems: three different legacy systems (end-of-life Nortel and analog PBXs), poor inter-office call handling, confusing caller routing, and prohibitive preliminary upgrade quotes near $300,000—forcing IT to find a flexible, affordable unified communications solution quickly.

SCPH worked with N2Net to deploy Digium Switchvox, installing two SMB 355 appliances for up to 400 users and getting the system operable in about six weeks. The Switchvox deployment cost roughly 30% of competing systems (with an estimated additional 5% recurring savings), and delivered seamless multi-site call routing, auto-attendants, mobility apps, fax and conferencing features, and call-reporting. The result: faster, simpler transfers across sites, better staff productivity and mobility, measurable call-quality insights—and dramatically improved customer service and connected-caller rates.
