Case Study: UK Based Medical Research Facility strengthens cyber resilience with a DigitalXRAID red team exercise

A DigitalXRAID Case Study

Preview of the UK Based Medical Research Facility Case Study

How a medical research facility was able to understand risk and ensure its infrastructure is fully protected with a red team exercise

UK Based Medical Research Facility, a UK medical research organisation, needed a clearer view of its threat landscape after seeing more cyberattacks across its sector. It engaged DigitalXRAID to assess its internal and external exposure, and DigitalXRAID recommended a Red Team Exercise rather than a standard penetration test to better reveal how real attackers might exploit vulnerabilities.

DigitalXRAID carried out a full red team exercise, using OSINT-based reconnaissance and controlled attack attempts against exposed credentials and VPN access. The team was unable to gain broad network access or move laterally, while the customer’s IT and Security teams detected and blocked activity at each stage. DigitalXRAID delivered a comprehensive report of findings, giving the facility external validation that its cybersecurity controls were strong and that no exploitable risks were present at the time.
