A Digital Realty Case Study
XTREME-D is a venture-backed startup that provides cloud-based, on-demand supercomputing (HPC) services and aimed to make HPC access fast, easy and cost-effective for enterprises. Facing limited infrastructure capacity (fewer than 20 users) while targeting rapid customer growth and serving customers that rely on both public and private clouds and very large datasets, XTREME-D needed a scalable, low-latency, compliant hosting and interconnection strategy to overcome data-gravity and performance constraints.
XTREME-D partnered with Digital Realty’s PlatformDIGITAL® for colocation, hybrid-cloud connectivity and middleware, enabling flexible, pay-as-you-grow deployments and direct connections to major public clouds. As a result XTREME-D now supports over 100 servers and more than one petabyte of storage in Japan, can scale mixed rack-to-MW configurations, accelerate global workflows, simplify US expansion, and deliver secure, high-performance HPC IaaS/PaaS to a growing enterprise customer base.
