SumUp, a leading mobile point‑of‑sale provider operating in 31 countries, needed to ensure card transactions completed in seconds while expanding across Europe and meeting strict cloud‑based payment regulations. Fast, secure, low‑latency connections were critical to preserve customer trust and a seamless checkout experience.

SumUp built a hybrid application that routes transactions between a hardware security module (HSM) and the cloud and colocated the HSM in Interxion data centres with direct access to major internet exchanges and cloud platforms. This reduced round‑trip latency, widened connectivity across Europe (including key hubs like Frankfurt/DE‑CIX), and maintained regulatory compliance without compromising user experience.
