Case Study: ARM Holdings achieves a high-efficiency, low-environmental-impact data center in Austin with Digital Realty

A Digital Realty Case Study

Preview of the ARM Holdings Case Study

Minimizing Environmental Impact with a High Efficiency Data Center

ARM Holdings, the world‑leading semiconductor IP supplier whose technology powers an estimated 95% of smartphones, needed a scalable, high‑efficiency, high‑density data center in the U.S. to match its award‑winning Cambridge facility and support growing cloud and HPC demands. ARM sought a “build‑to‑suit” partner that could replicate its sustainability and design standards quickly while fitting into its global footprint and long‑term data center strategy.

Digital Realty converted one‑third of an existing powered Base Building in Austin into a custom HPC facility at 7500 Metro Center Drive, working with the same designers, builders and equipment suppliers as the UK build. The site features high‑efficiency cooling, integrated DCIM and security, diverse utility feeds and connectivity to 17 carriers, delivered ARM a sustainable, scalable solution and earned DataCenter Dynamic’s North America Award (2014).
