HEAnet Increases Resilience and Availability

HEAnet, Ireland’s national research and education network, needed to supplement its state-of-the-art data centre and WAN to support rapid growth, new projects and a longer-term infrastructure strategy. The organisation required a cost‑effective way to add resilient, highly available capacity and an additional connectivity node so its services (email, videoconferencing, etc.) could meet increasing availability and scalability demands.

HEAnet selected Interxion’s Dublin data centre on a three‑year contract to colocate a 100 m² PoP, gaining redundant N+1 power and cooling, multilayer security, ISO‑certified information-security and business‑continuity controls, and multiple connectivity paths. The deployment delivered immediate increases in resilience and availability—effectively adding a fourth data centre—while providing physical separation for primary and backup resources and a clear, cost‑effective path to future expansion.
