A Digital Realty Case Study
HeidelbergCement, a global building materials leader with about 3,000 sites in some 60 countries, needed a fail-safe, real-time IT infrastructure to keep international production and logistics tightly aligned. The company faced the challenge of coordinating dozens of sites and continuously evaluating HGV logistics with minimal latency to reduce transport time and costs while maintaining high availability and security.
To meet this need HeidelbergCement expanded its colocation footprint at Interxion’s Frankfurt data centre and cross-connected it with its Heidelberg site, migrating core 24/7 applications (ERP, email, office systems) to the colocation environment with WAN backup and transparent failover. The solution delivered maximized availability, improved performance and security, expert operational support, and a scalable platform that supports long-term digital evolution and more efficient logistics.
