Reclaiming the Web for Educators and Students with DigitalOcean

Reclaim Hosting is an education‑focused web hosting company founded in 2013 in Fredericksburg, VA, that helps institutions, faculty, and students run websites and digital projects. As the business scaled, its leased dedicated servers became inflexible and hard to resize, and they could not meet regional data‑hosting requirements or evolving storage needs — prompting a search for a more scalable, globally available platform.

Beginning in 2016 Reclaim migrated core infrastructure to DigitalOcean after the introduction of Block Storage and new Droplet plans, running separate pools for Shared Hosting and Domain of One’s Own with block volumes, offsite backups, Droplet tagging, and cPanel management. The move (about 80% completed) enabled faster provisioning, regional hosting, and cost efficiencies; today they support 8,000+ shared hosting customers and 70+ institutions with sub‑15 minute daytime support response times and average uptime around 99.75%.
