Case Study: jQuery Foundation achieves resilient, automated hosting and faster deployments with DigitalOcean

A DigitalOcean Case Study

How The jQuery Foundation Uses DigitalOcean

The jQuery Foundation’s small, mostly volunteer infrastructure team supports project development (build servers, web servers) and several high‑traffic public websites, including documentation and package builders. Managing a diverse set of hosts with limited redundancy — and repeatedly dealing with DDoS attacks and site defacements — made it difficult to keep services simple, automated, and highly available.

The team moved servers to DigitalOcean for its people, SSD performance and a programmable API, integrating with their Debian/Puppet workflow to simplify provisioning and rebuilds. They migrated low‑traffic sites first, then high‑traffic sites that have remained trouble‑free and withstood DDoS attempts; DigitalOcean’s snapshots and API have given them faster recovery options, more flexibility, and greater ability to automate so they can do more with less effort.
