MasterControl simplified SAFe PI Planning with a digital approach and VersionOne

MasterControl, a compliance software solutions and services company, had recently adopted the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) but was still running PI planning on sticky notes and whiteboards. That approach led to lost or misinterpreted notes, manual data entry, and poor participation from remote team members. To preserve the tactile engagement of moving stories while enabling distributed planning, MasterControl selected Digital.ai’s VersionOne.

Digital.ai implemented VersionOne alongside large touchscreens, using the VersionOne Program Board, Program Predictability report, and Scorecards so teams could move virtual story cards, capture more context, map dependencies, and see real‑time planning data. The change eliminated manual re‑entry and lost notes, enabled remote participation, and helped MasterControl deliver five times more features while increasing team engagement, improving alignment across portfolio/program/development/IT, and providing real‑time visibility into story points and velocity trends.
