Case Study: California Department of Conservation achieves accurate earthquake-zone mapping with Digital Map Products' SmartParcels

A Digital Map Products Case Study

Preview of the California Department of Conservation Case Study

The California Department of Conservation Uses SmartParcels to Power the State’s Earthquake Zone App

The California Department of Conservation partnered with Digital Map Products to obtain detailed, import-ready parcel data for use in public-facing tools and internal land analyses. The department needed precise, standardized parcel information that could be easily integrated into an Earthquake Zone app and other projects involving ecological, energy, mining, and agricultural datasets.

By intersecting SmartParcels with regulatory seismic zones from the California Geological Survey, the department built an interactive app that shows whether properties touch a fault or hazard area and provides basic notifications to the public. The app quickly became one of the most visited pages on the department’s website and doubled site traffic within three weeks, and SmartParcels has also saved staff time on analyses such as estimating properties within 2,500 feet of oil and gas wells thanks to accurate, map-ready parcel locations.
