Real Time Updates Using New CityGIS2 Editor Tools

The City of Vernon, an industrial municipality with over 1,200 businesses on 5.2 square miles, struggled to manage complex utility and storm drain connections for large commercial parcels. Field crews previously measured laterals by hand and staff guessed at problem sources, making timely, accurate responses to customer complaints difficult. Digital Map Products converted Vernon’s infrastructure into intelligent GIS data and presented options, but the city wanted a simple, in-house way to keep data current and accessible to all staff.

DMP delivered a browser-based CityGIS2 Storm Drain Editor that lets authorized users securely edit storm drain data and immediately publish changes to all users, with undo/redo transaction support and FGDC-compliant exportability. The tool eliminated the need for specialized GIS technicians, gave engineers instant access to exact connections and catch basin locations, improved response to service calls and emergencies, and set the stage for similar editors for water, sewer, gas and electric layers and future field access.
