CityGIS2 — A Powerful Weapon in the Fight Against Exotic Newcastle Disease

Digital Map Products’ CityGIS2 was deployed to support a joint USDA/CDFA Exotic Newcastle Disease (END) task force based at Los Alamitos, addressing a fast‑spreading outbreak among backyard and non‑commercial birds across Southern California. The urban setting made it hard to identify parcel boundaries, property size, ownership and zoning from the road, and the multi‑agency, rapidly expanding team — with members working remotely — needed rapid situational awareness to trace infections and plan responses.

CityGIS2 delivered web‑accessible aerial imagery, parcel and ownership data, printable maps and a coordinate search feature, enabling remote collaboration and quick visual verification of properties. The tool reduced unnecessary drives, sped disinfecting and containment planning, improved compliance actions, and materially increased the task force’s efficiency during the eradication effort, helping restore control over much of the affected region.
