Auth0 launches secure Daml authentication in 7 steps with Digital Asset

Auth0, a customer identity and access management platform, needed a secure method to authenticate users for a distributed application built on a Daml ledger. Their challenge was to protect the internet-connected ledger from unauthorized access while simplifying user management for a public application. They partnered with vendor Digital Asset, utilizing the Daml platform and its integrated sandbox environment with JWT token authorization.

Digital Asset implemented a solution using Auth0 as a third-party token issuer. They configured Auth0 to authenticate users via social providers like Google, automatically onboard them by allocating Daml parties, and generate custom JWT access tokens for the ledger. A single-page web application was developed to acquire these tokens and attach them to all API requests. This setup provided a seamless, secure login flow for users and robust authorization checks for the ledger, successfully creating a custom authentication workflow for the distributed application.
