Atos eliminates reconciliation and replaces MT 535 / MT 536 reporting with Digital Asset

Atos, a global leader in digital transformation, faced the significant challenge of costly and error-prone reconciliation processes in financial market settlements. These processes, which required matching data across multiple entities and applications, were characterized by high latency and operational risk. To address this, Atos partnered with vendor Digital Asset to experiment with their Daml smart contract language and Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT).

The solution implemented by Digital Asset used Daml to model the settlement value chain on a distributed ledger, creating a single golden source of truth. This approach eliminated the need for reconciliation by ensuring data was synchronised in real-time between only the necessary parties, maintaining granular privacy. The results included the removal of SWIFT messages like MT535/536, a reduction in operational costs and risk, and access to real-time data, effectively solving both inter-company and intra-company reconciliation issues.
