A Digimarc Case Study
Habertürk (HT), a major Turkish daily, faced the industry-wide challenge of competing with online sources that offer constantly updated multimedia. After missing the chance to publish a crucial video during coverage of the Charlie Hebdo attack, editor-in-chief Selçuk Tepeli and digital marketing director Selin Pişkiner sought a way to enrich print with dynamic digital content and keep the paper relevant.
They implemented Digimarc Discover SDK to create the HT Dokun app, embedding imperceptible Digimarc Barcodes in print images so readers can scan to access videos, audio narration, translations, live updates, and social sharing. All 50 designers were trained to add codes, editors expanded multimedia storytelling, and analytics guided content; in the first month HT recorded 25,000 scans from 9,000 users, boosting engagement and making the newspaper a more interactive, up-to-date product.
