The Portland Trail Blazers teamed with Digimarc to deepen fan engagement by integrating mobile technology into the game-day experience. Facing the challenge of delivering richer, targeted content to mobile-native fans without altering the look or sound of existing media, the team needed a seamless way to connect arena and at-home audiences with exclusive, dynamic content.

They added FanScan to the Blazers’ official iOS and Android app using imperceptible Digimarc Barcodes embedded in posters, programs, calendars and arena audio. Fans scan or play recorded audio to unlock videos, real‑time stats and behind‑the‑scenes content; the barcode can be updated without reprinting and even survives recordings. The rollout made the Blazers the first NBA franchise to offer FanScan, boosting engagement, appealing to younger fans and earning positive media attention.
