Rovio Entertainment, creator of the global Angry Birds franchise, wanted to extend fan engagement around The Angry Birds Movie by unlocking exclusive in-game content for moviegoers during the film’s end credits—without disrupting the soundtrack or requiring manual codes. The challenge was to create a seamless, reliable way for the app to detect the movie in noisy theater environments and instantly deliver bonus content.
Digimarc solved this by embedding an inaudible Digimarc Barcode into the end‑credit audio and integrating the Digimarc Discover® Mobile SDK into Angry Birds Action!. When fans open the app during the credits (or sync the DVD/Blu‑ray), the signal is detected and exclusive content like the Hatchlings and Mighty Eagle is unlocked instantly, boosting engagement and delivering a smooth cross‑media fan experience.
