WiseConn Brings New Efficiencies to Agriculture with Precise Irrigation

WiseConn’s DropControl is a wireless hardware/software irrigation system that helps large-scale farmers monitor soil moisture, weather, wells, valves and pumps to optimize water use. The company built the system to address thin margins and the difficulty of managing irrigation across hundreds of acres, where lack of timely field data often leads to over- or under-watering, variable yields and wasted water.

WiseConn upgraded DropControl with Digi XBee-PRO 900HP modules and the DigiMesh protocol to gain long range, low power consumption and robust peer-to-peer mesh networking, letting the team focus on irrigation features instead of connectivity. The solution is deployed at 1,500 sites (50,000 acres) for 300 operations in Chile, Peru and California, collecting sensor data every 15 minutes and supporting up to 60 nodes per site—delivering distributed control, improved yields and crop quality, and up to 30% water savings.
