A Digi International Case Study
U.S. Water, a North American industrial water-treatment provider, needed a better way to monitor field equipment and aggregate data after its limited remote system forced frequent site visits for measurements, checks and deliveries. This manual approach increased response times and costs and made it difficult to compete with larger firms, so the company sought an M2M strategy to gain real-time visibility and operational efficiency.
Digi implemented an end-to-end solution — ConnectPort cellular routers, XBee ZigBee tank sensors, Digi Device Cloud, and a Verizon-based data strategy — to connect controllers and distributed tanks to U.S. Water’s customer management platform. With nearly 300 connected devices (and plans to expand), the system cut truck rolls and transportation costs, enabled remote troubleshooting, improved customer service and retention, freed field engineers for higher-value tasks, and created new monitoring-based revenue streams.
