Preview of the TriMet Case Study

TriMet enhances bus fleet management across 700+ buses with Digi

TriMet, a public transit agency operating a large fleet of buses, faced a significant challenge with outdated mobile access routers that had a high failure rate. They needed to upgrade their entire fleet's communications infrastructure to support new functionality like electronic fare collection, real-time vehicle tracking, and a new Transit Signal Priority initiative. They partnered with vendor Digi International to implement a modern solution.

Digi International provided its Digi TX64 cellular routers, managed by Digi Remote Manager, to equip over 700 buses. This solution delivered the durability, performance, and customizability TriMet required. The results included greater reliability in real-time dispatch, the successful publication of bus location data for riders, and direct support for the Transit Signal Priority project, which improves trip times and reduces carbon emissions. Digi International's technology and support were instrumental in the project's success, which earned TriMet an industry award.
