SWK rolls out smart energy pilot to 125 customers with Digi International

SWK, a municipal utility company, faced the challenge of motivating its customers to understand and actively manage their energy consumption. They needed a solution that could display near real-time gas, water, and electricity usage data and was specifically compatible with Siemens AMIS smart meters. Digi International was recommended as a partner to develop this innovative visualization application.

Digi International designed a custom Android application that runs on consumer tablets and smartphones, allowing customers to view and manage their consumption data remotely. The solution utilized the Digi Extended Grid Solution platform, including Digi Remote Manager and ConnectPort X2 gateways, to wirelessly collect data from the smart meters and transmit it for display. SWK rolled out the pilot to 125 customers, receiving extremely positive feedback on the design and usability. The cloud-based Digi platform proved to be fully scalable, supporting the project's goal of creating a sustainable, future-proof model for energy distribution.
