SEPTA achieves PTC compliance across 13 Regional Rail Lines with Digi

SEPTA, the sixth-largest public transportation system in the United States, faced the challenge of complying with a federal mandate for Positive Train Control (PTC) to enhance rail safety for its over one million daily riders. To prevent accidents and ensure a safety-first culture, they needed a sophisticated and fault-tolerant communications system. Digi International provided the solution with their Digi TX64 5G Rail router.

Digi International's solution involved deploying the Digi TX64 5G Rail router as the integral communications hub within a Mobile Communications Package on all locomotives. This system relays critical PTC data and enables remote management. As a result, SEPTA became one of the first passenger rail systems in the nation to achieve PTC compliance, improving safety across all 13 of its regional rail lines and enabling future efficiencies like increased scheduling capacity and fuel savings.
