Remote Temperature Monitoring of Perishable Goods Saves Money, Prevents Hazards

RMONI, a Belgium-based company founded in 2005, provides wireless remote monitoring of temperature for food and pharmaceutical goods. The business challenge was maintaining a strict cold chain—small temperature deviations can drastically shorten shelf life or spoil expensive medications—and traditional manual logging is time-consuming, error-prone and creates a heavy regulatory burden.

RMONI deployed an end-to-end solution of wireless sensors (using Digi XBee 802.15.4 and ZigBee), gateways and the Sensors2web cloud app to deliver real-time dashboards, alerts and automatic reporting. The standards-compliant system is quick to install, has over 1,500 installations and 10,000 sensors online, reduced supermarket food waste by about 10%, saved staff time, and is used by major retailers, fast-food chains and pharmaceutical suppliers.
