Radius Synergies deploys 75,000 Digi XBee modules to serve over 1 million end consumers

Radius Synergies, a provider of smart metering solutions in India, needed to support a national initiative to deploy smart meters. Their challenge was to create a low-cost, low-power connectivity solution for their prepaid smart energy meters to enable real-time monitoring and management for utilities and consumers. They partnered with vendor Digi International, utilizing the Digi XBee XR 868 MHz module.

The solution implemented by Digi International involved embedding Digi XBee modules within rugged smart meters to create a Wi-SUN-based mesh network. This provided the secure, long-range connectivity needed for the system. The results include the deployment of 75,000 Digi XBee modules serving over a million end consumers. The smart meters are delivering 10% to 20% energy savings through real-time monitoring and are supporting national goals to reduce electrical losses, potentially saving over 200 billion units of electricity annually.
