Pittsburgh Regional Transit improves rider experience for 62 million annual rides with Digi

Pittsburgh Regional Transit (PRT) sought to improve the public transit rider experience by providing real-time bus location, scheduling, and passenger capacity information. The challenge was to create a reliable, connected system across a large fleet of buses to meet rider demands for accurate arrival times and modern amenities like Wi-Fi. Partnering with Digi International and Clever Devices, PRT implemented the TrueTime application using Digi's purpose-built transportation routers and Digi Remote Manager®.

The solution from Digi International provided robust, dual LTE-Advanced routers that connected onboard systems securely and reliably. Digi Remote Manager allowed PRT to easily manage and update hundreds of routers from a central location without taking buses offline. The results included providing riders with real-time tracking through multiple platforms, free passenger Wi-Fi, and data on bus capacity. This significantly improved the rider experience and provided PRT with valuable data to measure and improve on-time performance.
