Owlet Nightshift by Schréder Reduces Maintenance and Energy Costs While Keeping Residents Safe

Owlet Nightshift, developed by Schréder in Mainz, Germany, provides intelligent tele-management systems for outdoor and roadside lighting. Facing aging, inefficient municipal lighting that drives high energy and maintenance costs (maintenance can account for up to 40% of a city’s lighting expenses), Owlet sought a reliable, scalable wireless partner to deliver a fast-to-market IoT solution.

Using Digi XBee ZigBee modules and a Digi ConnectPort X4 cellular gateway, Owlet retrofits fixtures with mesh-connected LED nodes that are centrally monitored and controlled via web and mobile tools. The system enables on-demand dimming, fault reporting and predictive maintenance, cutting energy use by up to 85% (with combined operational and maintenance savings as high as 90%), extending LED life and saving cities hundreds of thousands of dollars annually.
