A Digi International Case Study
Olsbergs, a maker of radio-controlled hydraulics for truck-mounted cranes, faced a challenge when stricter European ETSI radio regulations required a module that could meet both rigorous safety/precision standards and use the full ISM band (863–870 MHz). They needed a reliable radio solution that ensured safe operation in populated areas and could support remote-control hydraulics that would replace the traditional two-person setup.
Olsbergs partnered with Digi and adopted the Digi XBee 868 Low‑Power RF module, which implements ETSI-required LBT and AFA to use the entire ISM band and provide a secure, accurate link. The result: safer, more efficient crane operations (reducing many jobs from two operators to one), time and cost savings, and broader adoption—about 70% of customers in Europe—with Olsbergs advancing safer, more cost‑efficient construction hydraulics.
