New York City Department of Transportation upgrades 14,000 intersections with Digi International for 99.99% reliability

The New York City Department of Transportation (NYC DOT) faced the challenge of upgrading its aging citywide wireless network, NYCWiN, which was critical for managing traffic signals and intelligent transportation systems devices across 14,000 intersections. The department required a high-speed, reliable, and secure communications solution with centralized management to improve traffic flow and system reliability. They partnered with vendor Digi International to deploy a new solution.

Digi International implemented a massive rollout of its dual cellular routers and Digi Remote Manager® central management platform at each intersection. This solution provided 99.99% network availability through a dual-carrier design, robust security, and zero-touch configuration for rapid deployment. The project was completed ahead of schedule and under budget, earning NYC DOT the Outstanding ITS Project of the Year award. The result is a highly reliable, secure, and centrally managed system that gives NYC DOT citywide visibility and control.
