Mira Bella powers smart street lighting with Digi and 8-year solar batteries

Mira Bella Energy, founded by James Meringer, sought to revolutionize solar street lighting by using efficient bifacial solar panels. Their challenge was to create a smart, scalable, and aesthetically pleasing solution that could move lighting off the traditional power grid, overcoming the limitations and maintenance issues of traditional solar street lights.

Digi International provided the IoT communication solution by equipping each light with Digi XBee RF modules, a Digi gateway, and a connection to Digi Remote Manager. This allowed Mira Bella to implement remote monitoring and management of motion detection, light brightness, and battery levels. The successful pilot for the Green Wharf initiative in Santa Cruz demonstrates a system that is completely removed from the grid, paving the way for 100% sustainable, renewable energy for municipalities and commercial campuses.
