Irrometer, a manufacturer of soil-moisture sensors for agriculture, needed a more reliable and cost-effective method to wirelessly transmit sensor data to the cloud for precision irrigation. They turned to vendor Digi International and implemented the Digi XBee 3 Cellular LTE-M modems.

The Digi solution provided simple, affordable cellular connectivity and accelerated Irrometer's development time to just five months. The pre-certified modems, which run MicroPython for edge intelligence, enabled the creation of a seamless integrated ecosystem. This resulted in a reliable system that optimizes water usage, reduces energy costs, and improves crop yields for farmers, with devices lasting over two years on a single battery.
