E-gear launches energy controller in 15 weeks with Digi International

E-GEAR, LLC, a renewable energy specialist, faced the challenge of managing the variability of solar power generation and consumption in Hawaii, the most fossil-fuel-dependent U.S. state. To create a smarter energy grid and optimize solar power storage and distribution, they partnered with Digi International and its Digi Wireless Design Services (WDS) to develop their innovative Energy Management Controller.

Digi WDS provided comprehensive hardware and software design expertise, helping E-GEAR identify key components and develop communications for cellular, Wi-Fi, and other protocols. The collaboration produced fully functional alpha units in just 15 weeks, leveraging Digi's embedded processor module and Digi Remote Manager for cloud connectivity. The resulting solution enables utilities to receive smooth, predictable power from distributed sources, reducing the need for excess generation capacity and stabilizing the grid.
