Dreamqii raises over $1.1 million with Digi International for PlexiDrone crowdfunding

Dreamqii, a Toronto-based robotics technology company, sought to create an ultra-portable, affordable, and easy-to-use drone called the PlexiDrone to increase widespread adoption of drone technology. The challenge was to engineer a low-cost, compact solution that could be assembled quickly without tools, eliminating the historical barriers of complexity, high expense, and the need for expert piloting skills.

Digi International provided a solution using its XBee-PRO 900 RPSMA module, enabling long-range, reliable communication from a control box to the drones via Bluetooth from a smartphone or tablet. This allowed smartphone control, which saved customers money and enabled innovative swarming capabilities. As a result, Dreamqii successfully launched a product that snaps together in minutes, can be controlled by common devices, and has obtained commercial flight certifications, with its crowdfunding campaign raising over $1.1 million.
