Case Study: DreamQii achieves $1.1M crowdfunding success and smartphone‑controlled swarming PlexiDrone with Digi International's XBee‑PRO 900

A Digi International Case Study

Preview of the Dreamqii Case Study

DreamQii raised over $1.1 million dollars with their crowdfunding campaign for the PlexiDrone

DreamQii is a Toronto-based robotics company that created the PlexiDrone to make professional-grade aerial photography accessible. After market feedback from filmmakers and photographers, the team faced the challenge of engineering an ultra-compact, low-cost drone that could be assembled or disassembled in minutes without tools to remove the complexity and expense that limited wider adoption.

They solved this by replacing a traditional RC remote with smartphone/tablet control via the PlexiHub and PlexiGCS, using Digi’s XBee-PRO 900 radio for long-range, reliable links and unique swarming capability. The PlexiDrone snaps together in two minutes, carries most cameras, offers up to a mile range with a 3D map-based control interface, has earned commercial SFOCs, and helped DreamQii raise over $1.1M in crowdfunding.
