A Digi International Case Study
Eykona, a British medical imaging start-up, partnered with Digi to tackle an industry-wide problem: wound measurement was inaccurate, slow and subjective, relying on paper rulers or probes and producing inconsistent results across clinicians. With rising pressures on the NHS to cut costs and a growing incidence of diabetes-related wounds, there was a clear need for a reproducible, efficient way to track wound progression.
Eykona’s Wound Measurement System combines a hand-held camera, a single-use disposable target and workstation software to capture and map wounds in 3D, with Digi’s Freescale-based ConnectCore Wi-i.MX51 module providing the processing, multi-camera support and power management. The solution delivers consistent, repeatable measurements, is in use across community and secondary care, has improved management of hard-to-heal wounds (including diabetic foot ulcers and combat injuries), and saves clinicians time and resources while improving patient experience.
