Digi Gateways Connect Bike Rental Terminals

Fsm Ground Services Management, which operates the Tel-O-Fun bike-sharing system in Tel Aviv, needed a reliable wireless way to connect more than 170 docking station terminals to a central control center for bike rentals, subscriptions, and payment processing. The challenge was to avoid expensive roadwork while ensuring dependable, fast communication in Tel Aviv’s hot, humid conditions. Digi International’s connectivity technology was evaluated as part of the solution, with the customer specifically considering Digi’s rugged industrial networking options.

Digi International implemented the ConnectPort wireless 3G router with multiple Ethernet ports to connect the terminals securely and reliably. The PCI-DSS compliant solution handled payment transactions and performed well in harsh environmental conditions, with no reported connectivity issues or field failures. As a result, Tel-O-Fun continued to operate successfully and FSM said it would use Digi International equipment again, with plans to expand the service to other cities and potentially add future features like VoIP customer support.
