Case Study: Orange Business Services (Almerys) cuts emergency hospitalizations with Digi International’s cardiology telehealth solution

A Digi International Case Study

Preview of the Orange Business Services Case Study

Digi and Almerys Develop Critical Cardiology Telehealth Application

Digi partnered with Almerys (a subsidiary of Orange Business Services) to build Cardiauvergne, a cardiology telehealth pilot in the Auvergne region of France. The challenge was to reliably network large numbers of in‑home weighing scales and securely manage/transmit daily weight data so a medical coordination unit could make immediate treatment decisions without on‑site visits.

Digi deployed ConnectPort X3 programmable cellular gateways to record and send daily readings, with TransPort WR11 routers using fixed lines where cellular coverage was unavailable, and Almerys manages devices via Digi Remote Manager hosted on AWS for low‑cost scalability. Since the pilot began in September 2011 the system has monitored 315 patients and handled 600 alarms, triggering responses from patient calls to dispatching medical staff or arranging emergency hospitalization.
