Case Study: Devergy expands affordable solar power access with Digi International

A Digi International Case Study

Devergy connects 1,000+ customers with Digi to deliver solar power 20% cheaper than kerosene

Devergy, a social enterprise, faced the challenge of providing affordable electricity to low-income rural communities in Tanzania and Ghana where a traditional power grid was nonexistent. With customers earning less than $2 per day, they needed a cost-effective and reliable solar solution. Digi International addressed this with its XBee® technology for network communication and the ConnectPort® X4 Gateway for ZigBee to GPRS capabilities.

The solution implemented by Digi International enabled Devergy to create smart, remotely monitored solar micro-grids managed through Digi Remote Manager. This resulted in residents spending 20% less on lighting and 50% less on phone charging compared to kerosene and batteries. Since 2012, Devergy has successfully connected over 1,000 customers to clean, reliable electricity.
