The customer, Almerys, a subsidiary of Orange Business Services, faced the challenge of finding a reliable and secure way to network a large number of weighing scales in patients' homes for a cardiology telehealth project. They needed to collect and communicate this critical health data to a medical coordination unit to enable immediate treatment decisions. Vendor Digi International provided a solution using their ConnectPort X3 programmable cellular gateway.

Digi International's solution involved using their gateways and TransPort WR41 routers to connect the scales and transfer patient weight data securely via cellular networks or fixed telephone lines. The system was managed using Digi Remote Manager. As a result of this implementation, the pilot project monitored 315 patients and responded to 600 alarms, successfully averting emergency hospitalizations and improving patient outcomes while generating significant cost savings for the healthcare system.
