MMD Shipping cuts energy use with Dialight LEDs and achieves 2-year payback

MMD Shipping, a major UK fruit importer, was facing significant increases in energy costs, with rates having already risen nearly 20%. To combat this and improve operational efficiency at their large Portsmouth facility, which handles a majority of the UK's banana imports, they sought a new lighting solution. They turned to vendor Dialight for their high-efficiency LED lighting products.

Dialight implemented its DuroSite LED High Bay and Low Bay fixtures equipped with occupancy sensors. The solution dramatically improved light levels and safety while cutting energy consumption. The project delivered an expected two-year return on investment, reduced maintenance costs to virtually zero, and qualified for a 19% tax break through the UK's Enhanced Capital Allowance scheme. The results were so impressive that MMD Shipping initiated a corporate-wide rollout of Dialight LEDs across its other facilities.
