Case Study: Bankgirot enables instant, 24/7 mobile payments (Swish) with DH Corporation's Global PAYplus

A DH Corporation Case Study

Preview of the Bankgirot Case Study

Delivering Mobile Phone Payments in Real-Time

Bankgirot, Sweden’s mass payment clearing house owned by a consortium of banks, needed to build a real‑time, always‑on payments infrastructure to support a fast mobile‑to‑mobile service called Swish. The challenge was to design a high‑performance, ISO 20022‑compliant platform that could run 24/7/365, interoperate with existing bank communications, avoid credit or settlement risk, and meet aggressive time‑to‑market demands. To provide the core processing engine, Bankgirot selected DH Corporation’s Global PAYplus to help realize its PRT (Payment in Realtime) blueprint.

Using DH Corporation’s Global PAYplus as the tailored processing engine within Bankgirot’s PRT platform, the vendor helped launch Swish as an instant, 24/7 payment service with a covering‑funds mechanism agreed with the Riksbank to eliminate settlement risk. The result was rapid adoption and clear measurable impact: by October 2013 Swish had 850,000 users and SEK 1.3 billion in transactions, with payees typically receiving confirmation in 1–2 seconds; PRT proved robust, scalable and enabled Bankgirot and its member banks to roll out further real‑time services.
