VLAIO Implements Fraud Detection Tool with Devoteam

Flanders Innovation & Entrepreneurship (VLAIO) needed an automated system to detect fraudulent applications for its various subsidy programs, including the SME e-wallet and COVID-19 support measures. The high volume of requests made a manual, case-by-case review impossible. To meet this challenge, VLAIO partnered with Devoteam to develop a secure fraud detection tool that would help its inspectors identify and prioritize high-risk applications.

Devoteam implemented a solution built within VLAIO's Azure environment, using Python and techniques like machine learning and anomaly detection to calculate a risk score for each application. The results are delivered through a custom Power BI dashboard, which serves as an information hub for inspectors. This system implemented by Devoteam saves inspectors significant time, improves readability of data, and allows for the quick identification of high-risk fraud cases while ensuring all sensitive citizen data is kept secure.
