Washoe County Technology Services - Customer Case Study

Washoe County Technology Services, the technology arm of Washoe County, Nevada, needed to strengthen endpoint security and align with the state’s SB 227 data encryption requirements. Using DeviceLock software, the county set out to protect PII and ensure employees could only use approved removable media and USB devices across its government agencies.

DeviceLock expanded to more than 3,000 endpoints and was configured to allow only county-approved Lexar JumpDrive SAFE S3000 encrypted USB drives, using DeviceLock’s granular whitelisting and device-ID controls to enforce policy. The result was a proactive compliance approach that helped Washoe County meet Nevada’s data protection goals ahead of the deadline, while supporting FIPS 140-2 Level 3 and AES 256-bit encryption for sensitive data storage and transport.
