Multinational Investment Bank - Customer Case Study

A multinational investment bank and financial services firm needed to migrate more than 40,000 production servers to a private cloud as part of a technology refresh and VMware upgrade. Because the environment was so large, the company broke the work into phases and identified comprehensive, repeatable asset discovery and dependency mapping as the primary challenge—manual methods would have required tens of thousands of man‑hours and exposed the project to high cost, errors, and single‑snapshot limitations.

The firm deployed Device42’s Core, Software Lifecycle Management, Application Dependency Mapping and Resource Utilization modules (with 11 remote collectors) to automate discovery and map application dependencies. In the pilot Device42 discovered 8,000 servers and enabled migration of about 4,000, reducing discovery effort from an estimated >4,000 man‑hours to ~2,320 (saving ~1,680 man‑hours, ≈$283K) and cutting time‑to‑value by 50%. Projected full‑project savings are roughly $5M with an estimated 294% ROI.
