A Device Magic Case Study
StrongMinds, a nonprofit founded in 2013 to treat depression among women in Sub‑Saharan Africa, runs group‑based talk therapy across Uganda and has treated about 30,000 women to date through roughly 400 therapy groups in four districts. They faced a major operational challenge: collecting accurate, timely data from community‑based facilitators and making it accessible to headquarters in Uganda and colleagues in the United States. To solve this, StrongMinds adopted Device Magic mobile forms on tablets for field data collection.
Using Device Magic, facilitators submit session attendance, weekly progress, screening scores and clinical notes in real time, enabling monitoring and evaluation staff and supervisors to spot issues, remove duplicate entries, and prompt facilitators when needed. Device Magic’s flexibility and mobile access improved transparency for leadership and donors, streamlined workflows for facilitators (who often manage ~100 clients), and supported StrongMinds’ ability to scale treatment more efficiently and cost‑effectively.
