How Maersk Tankers built a more inclusive recruitment process

Maersk Tankers, a Denmark-based shipping company, faced challenges with a non-inclusive recruitment process and employer branding. Their job adverts were cumbersome and their marketing imagery was not inclusive, which led to a significant lack of female applicants. To address this, they partnered with Develop Diverse and used its inclusive writing software to overhaul their approach to talent acquisition.

By implementing Develop Diverse, Maersk Tankers redesigned its entire recruitment process. This included using more inclusive language in job adverts, introducing voice-only screening calls to avoid bias, and standardizing interview questions. As a result of these efforts, the company saw a significant increase in female applicants and, in 2021, over half of their new hires were women.
