A DeskAlerts Case Study
Weizmann Institute of Science, a leading multidisciplinary research institution in Israel with about 150 users, faced a critical communications challenge: long-running experiments (like human genome sequencing that can run days and use kits costing tens of thousands of dollars) would be ruined by unexpected IT maintenance or outages. The IT team needed a way to guarantee that affected researchers would see and acknowledge maintenance and outage notices so processes wouldn’t be started at the wrong time. They selected DeskAlerts to provide that reliable, acknowledged notification channel.
DeskAlerts was implemented first as a proof-of-concept using desktop pop-up alerts targeted by Active Directory groups, with a user-acknowledgment feature and a claimed 100% open rate; the Institute broadcasts bulk notifications monthly or as needed and plans to add DeskAlerts’ mobile app. As a result, critical processes are no longer unexpectedly interrupted, the integrity of multi-day and multi-week experiments is preserved, and the Institute avoids potential data loss and the loss of equipment and kits worth tens of thousands of dollars.
