McGraw-Hill Education redesigns AccessScience in 2 phases with Design for People

McGraw-Hill Education wanted to refresh their AccessScience website, an online resource for college students, to improve its usability and engagement as they moved to a new platform. The challenge was that the old design was outdated for a new generation of learners, lacked clear user paths for subscribers versus non-subscribers, and had specific requirements for presenting scientific citations. Design for People Inc. was engaged to address these issues.

Design for People Inc. tackled the project in two phases, beginning with a high-level redesign and followed by a complete overhaul informed by an eye-tracking usability study. The solution included designing a unique experience for non-subscribers to highlight the value proposition and a decluttered, focused experience for paying subscribers. The result was a redesigned AccessScience that was easy and engaging for students to browse and search for scientific material.
