Leading Energy Provider Gets Insight into Hosting Alternatives for AWS Workloads

Leading Energy Provider Company, a North American energy company with about 6,000 employees, acquired a Canadian provider running 368 Amazon Web Services instances. It wanted to reduce AWS costs and asked Densify to review alternative hosting environments and analyze the AWS setup for optimization opportunities.

Densify examined the existing environment, which relied on Reserved Instances maturing in 3–5 months, and identified modernization and right-sizing opportunities. The analysis showed a potential reduction of $85,000 per month in AWS spend, 29 unused instances, and $1.4 million in annual savings by modeling the workload on IBM Bluemix bare metal. The company’s annual public cloud cost savings with Densify were listed as $1,020,000.
