A Denodo Technologies Case Study
One of Canada’s largest public health providers, serving over a million people, needed to replace its main patient information system and modernize a batch-oriented enterprise data warehouse. The new Cerner transactional system promised near‑real‑time data (5–10 minute latency) but created an architectural challenge: the organization had to integrate its dimensional EDW and the new transactional source, reduce data replication, and speed up slow IT change cycles and nightly reporting.
The company deployed the Denodo Platform as a single semantic/data virtualization layer above Cerner, the EDW and other sources, creating virtual base, business and analytic objects (with integrated Active Directory security) so data remained in source systems. This approach avoided heavy ETL and replication, enabled rapid prototyping and agile releases (7 datasets in 7 months), automated testing, delivered near‑real‑time reports, improved system turnaround by 30–50%, and reduced storage and governance overhead while improving lineage and metadata management.
